    Jazz AI Lounge2026

A festival lounge where jazz musicians and AI share one stage — an AI pianist that follows the score and an AI rhythm section that answers improvisation

    Year

    2026

    Format

AI performance · 3 days live

    Venue

    23rd Jarasum Jazz Festival, Gapyeong

    With

KAIST MACLab · Studio Meta K

    My role

    • Performance session — generated the AI pianist's hand motion for every piece with Tipiano
    • Improvisation session — improvised live through Deepocket with three pianists (Jimindorothy, Hyunvin An, Lee Ji-young)

An AI lounge set up by the KAIST Music and Audio Computing Lab at the 23rd Jarasum Jazz Festival. In the performance session, the AI pianist 'Scott' followed rehearsed pieces by score following and took over on a Disklavier, while Scott on the stage screen played with generated hand motion. In the improvisation session, Deepocket analyzed the pianist's playing in real time with no rehearsal and generated bass and drums. Two modes of collaboration—AI taking over and AI answering—ran for three days on an outdoor stage.

    Scott, the AI pianist

On the stage screen, Scott plays with generated hand motion. Score following lets him track the musicians and take over the piano part, which sounds from a Disklavier on stage.

    A Disklavier beside the band

Sharing the stage with guitar and bass, a Disklavier turns the AI's playing into acoustic piano sound.

    03

    Behind the stage

From a console beside the stage, the team ran both sessions' systems live. In the improvisation session, Deepocket analyzed the pianist in real time, with no rehearsal, and generated bass and drums.
